November is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In Canada, November has been designated as National Domestic Violence Awareness month. 1 in 5 Canadian women experience some form of Domestic Violence daily.  This maybe physical, verbal, mental and/or emotional abuse.

As a result of the public health safety measures implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic it has become increasingly difficult for abuse victims to reach out for help.  As a result, the Canadian Women’s Foundation created a simple “Signal for Help” sign that abuse victims can use in a photo or during a video chat to let someone know that they need help. This signal is one-handed and can let a person silently show they need help and want someone to check in with them in a safe way.

Share this information on your social media so that the Signal can be quickly recognized, and help given when our peers cry out to us.

This goes beyond the month of November, let’s do our part to help!
